Arthritis Care
Empowering people with arthritis
We aim to empower people to take control of their arthritis and their lives, and to have a positive impact on the policies and practices affecting them. On a very practical and day to day basis, we show people how to manage their condition and give them skills they may need in order to reach their potential in society.
At the heart of everything we do is the voice of people with arthritis. User involvement is central to our philosophy at Arthritis Care - we cannot truly speak on behalf of people without engaging them regularly, honestly and transparently. Forty per cent of our staff and over half of our Board members have arthritis. As a member led organisation, everything we do is shaped to meet the needs of people with arthritis. The backbone of our organisation is our volunteer network; they run Arthritis Care branches, run self-management training courses (they are trained to a fully accredited standard to do so) and are the first port of call at information stands all over the UK. Arthritis Care in Scotland and Northern Ireland have already achieved Investors in Volunteers and all our national offices are working towards its achievement.
