Asthma UK
A matter of life and breath
Over 5.4 million children and adults across the UK are affected by asthma; that’s one person in every five households who can’t take breathing for granted.
Asthma is an underestimated condition that, although triggered by seemingly harmless things such as house-dust mites or exercise, can become life-threatening. Over half a million people face the challenge of living with severe asthma symptoms and fear that their next asthma attack could be their last.
Funded almost entirely by voluntary donations Asthma UK is dedicated to making a difference through improving the health and well-being of people affected by asthma. To date we have funded over £50 million of research into the root causes of asthma and developing new treatments. We also fund vital services like the Asthma UK Adviceline (0800 121 62 44) that is staffed by specialist asthma nurses and supports families and individuals affected by asthma in times of need or reassurance.
We work in partnership with people living with asthma, their carers, healthcare professionals and researchers to develop and share expertise. Together, we help improve peoples’ understanding of their asthma and reduce its effect on their lives.
