Children in Crisis
Education for the world’s most vulnerable children
"Children will always be the most vulnerable members of any society. Whether in an economic crisis, a political upheaval or international war, it is children who are the most vulnerable defenseless victims and they who suffer the most" - Founder and Life President, Sarah Duchess of York
Today, Children in Crisis works in partnership with local communities to provide educational opportunities as a route out of poverty for the world's most vulnerable children and their families.
We currently operate in 7 countries, working with local partner organisations to meet the needs of children in the most effective way.
- In Europe, there is a need for drugs education, particularly for children living in societies in which drug and alcohol misuse is common. For Over 10 years we have worked with these children to ensure that they have the information and skills needed to make positive, informed decisions about their own lives.
- In Afghanistan, we have established Community Based Education Centres within Kabul to provide accelerated learning classes to children whose education has stalled due to the conflict, as well as literacy and tailoring classes to women. Protection of the rights of children is also a theme that runs through all of CiC’s work. In Kabul, we have trained 400 teachers in children’s rights and positive discipline, this project has been extended to reach an additional 600 teachers in 4 new areas.
- In Western China we have trained 100 women in basic health and midwifery, working to reduce infant mortality rates of 400 deaths in every 1000 births.
- In Sierra Leone, we have trained over 400 primary school teachers to teach children about the dangers or HIV / AIDS. We have also rebuilt 11 schools, and implemented teacher-parent meetings to provide HIV information and discussion sessions.
- In the Democratic Republic of Congo we have re-built 5 schools and trained 400 teachers within remote mountainous areas.
- In Liberia, a country traumatized by a 14 year-long civil war, we have re-built 3 schools and worked to bring children back into education, with a particular emphasis on female education and protection.
Our work is ongoing, we have much to do, and all of this is dependent on kind and generous support from people like you. Thank you for considering our cause.
