Heart Research UK
Pioneers in the fight against heart disease
In 2007, we celebrated our 40th anniversary and over the last four decades we have funded many pioneering projects at the cutting edge of science. We paid for six of the eight first successful UK heart transplants, carried out by Sir Terence English at Papworth Hospital.
Life saving technology that we now take for granted, such as heart valves, angioplasty and more recently, amazing artificial heart pumps, would not have been developed without our help.
We would prefer for there to be no heart problems in the first place so we promote the benefits of living a healthy heart lifestyle. Our Healthy Heart grants, school and community talks and Healthy Heart workplace schemes reach communities and give them the knowledge and advice they need to take care of their heart health.
