Every year childhood cancer affects 1700 children in the uk which on average, means 5 families a day are told that their child is suffering from some form of cancer.

Sadly even with today’s technology many of these children will pass away.

Jacks Little Stars was set up in memory of Jack Joseph Starowojtow who bravely lost his battle against a rare form of childhood cancer Alveolar Rhabdohmyosarcoma, a rare muscle cancer on the 10th April 2006 aged 5 years old.

Jack was the youngest of 3 children, born healthily on the 2nd August 2000 weighing 71bs 9ozs. When jack turned 3 he complained that his foot was hurting and on examination a lump was discovered, he was taken to the out of hours emergency doctors as it was a bank holiday weekend. He was immediately sent to our local hospital and after several scans and numerous tests the lump turned out to be a cancerous tumour. Jack was then transferred to a children’s cancer unit and was started on treatment. Jack battled courageously for 22 months never losing his spirit and dignity throughout his gruelling treatment which consisted of 15 courses of chemotherapy and 45 doses of radiotherapy. On March 9th we were given the devastating news that the cancer had returned and as parents we had to make the decision to let Jack go as he had fought the disease twice already and we could not bear to see him in pain, he left behind a heartbroken mummy, daddy and a sister and brother.

After his death we decided we wanted to help other families as we could identify their needs as we had been on every level of their pain and to help as much as we can to try and make life a little easier for the families as a unit. Our main aims are to provide financial and emotional support for families with children with cancer, children who are terminal and support for families if their child passes away with the disease.

We aim to help the families as a support network in whatever way we can as we ourselves know that losing a child is the most devastating trauma any family has to go through and will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

Jacks legacy will live on in this charity and as we have had put on his headstone , A SHINING STAR ON EARTH NOW A SHINING STAR IN HEAVEN
