Richard Steel & PartnersRichard Steel and Partners, Family Owned Funeral Directors
Richard Steel & Partners are proud to be the only Family Owned Funeral Directors in Winchester continuing four generations of vocational service to the local community, since 1860.
John Steel was indentured to Frederick Savage, the local builder and undertaker, for the princely sum of one shilling per week, rising to five shillings per week after five years.
He was joined by his nephew, Stanley Steel in 1921. Stanley served on Winchester City Council for over 25 years, twice having the honour of being elected Mayor; our premises in City Road are named Alderman House in his memory.
Richard Steel joined his father in 1962. A keen sportsman and singer. He is Chairman of the Trustees of St. Johns Winchester Charity, Chairman of the Winchester Working Men's Housing Society, President of the Winchester Operatic Society and St John Ambulance, and is a former Trustee of the Theatre Royal.
His son Iain Steel became the fourth generation to join the firm in 1988. Iain is also a keen singer and actor; a member of several local societies and has recently won a Southern Daily Echo award. He is a member of the Board of Examiners for the National Association of Funeral Directors and is Secretary for the Selected Independent Funeral Homes European Group.
Mark Allery joined Richard and Iain as a Director of Richard Steel & Partners, having worked with them for the last few years as a qualified funeral director following a senior management career in the retail sector.
Richard, Iain, Mark and their team are proud to continue the family's tradition with the emphasis on traditional family care.
