St. Mark's Hospital Foundation
A remarkable hospital based in north-west London
St. Mark’s Hospital was founded by Frederick Salmon in 1835. It was one of the first specialist hospitals in the UK to focus on colorectal and intestinal health. From its roots in City Road, (where the hospital withstood the two World Wars), it moved to the current site at Northwick Park in 1995. Since 1835, the hospital has expanded its specialty within the colorectal field and is a very well-respected tertiary centre for complex patients. St Mark’s in Harrow has grown to become one of the top national and international hospitals specialising in bowel diseases. Each year we see over 26,000 outpatients, many of whom have disorders so serious that they are referred to our medical specialists from other hospitals throughout the UK.
With NHS resources so stretched, programmes of clinical research and education often take second place to the priority of funding patients’ treatment. St Mark’s Hospital relies upon supplementary funding to help develop our vital research and education programmes.
At St. Mark’s we are dedicated to improving the lives of patients suffering from bowel cancer and other bowel diseases. St Mark’s charitable arm, St Mark’s Hospital Foundation, raises funds for research and education into bowel cancer and other bowel disorders. With the right research we believe that all categories of bowel illnesses could be eliminated in the future.
Our mission is simple - to save and improve the lives of those suffering from colorectal and intestinal disorders. By raising funds for more research at St. Mark’s and educating the public on early detection together we can save lives.
By supporting St. Mark’s Hospital Foundation you will enable us to continue the ongoing research, education and training of St. Mark’s, ensuring that the world’s first, and still one of the world’s finest, specialist hospitals continues to push the boundaries of patient care and research in the fight against bowel disease.
